Convenient Executive MBA Programs

October 8th, 2009 · No Comments

I’ve been at my present company for about nine years now. I really enjoy the work and am good at what I do. In fact, I can envision sticking around here until I retire, which I know is an unusual sentiment these days. But in order to do so, I think I need to go back to school for better qualifications. I seem to have hit a plateau in the promotion department, as I haven’t gotten one in the last three years. Everyone above me has at least a Master’s degree to their name, so my lack of one is probably what’s holding me back. That’s why I’m currently checking into different Executive MBA programs.

Executive MBA programs are specifically designed with working professionals in mind. Schools that offer these degrees schedule classes at night and on weekends so that students can attend without having to quit their jobs or otherwise put their careers on hold. In addition, there are many online Executive MBA degree programs where students never have to step foot inside a classroom at all. That route is very appealing to those who have both job and family commitments, making even night and weekend classes all but impossible to attend.

I don’t really have a preference either way. I live within reasonable commuting distance of several area colleges and universities, so I wouldn’t mind going to campus for classes. At the same time, I’m not ruling out an online Executive MBA program just yet. By remaining open to online classes, I greatly expand the number of schools I can apply to, thereby increasing my chances of being accepted by one of them.

I’ve already found numerous electronic resources to help me select the best school from which to get my EMBA. First, I came upon a website that has a large directory of schools with Executive MBA degree programs online. This is a great help because it cuts down on the amount of time I spend searching for this information on my own. All I have to do is browse the directory, and click on a link as soon as I come across an interesting option.

Another invaluable resource are websites like Princeton Review, Business Week, U.S. News & World Report, and similar places that rank, rate, and review different Executive MBA programs around the country. The rankings are based on such criteria as the quality of the instruction and education, the prestige of the program among industry leaders, and the economic value of the degree. These are judgments I would never be able to make on my own, so I’m glad I have other sources to turn to.

I’m nowhere near making a decision about which schools to apply to, but I’m definitely on the right path. I’m convinced that getting an Executive MBA degree is going to open lots of doors for me and lead to a long and rewarding career. I’m eager to head down this road!
