My step father loves country music, but he complains all of the time that it is just not what it used to be. There are many who love country who also say the same thing. If you listen to older country music artists, you will see what they mean. The twang is still there, but the music under the lyrics is just not what it was, and some say it is not true country music. However, that does not mean it is not good, but it does mean that those that have listened for a life time are going to be turned off.
Country music has a reputation for making people sad. Though that is not always the case, there is an underlying theme of things gone wrong that can pop up in many songs by country music artists both young and old. Today, newer themes are creeping into country, and one of those is comedy. There are some pretty funny songs out there by country music artists that can go a long way toward entertaining those looking for some comfort in a song. They even have a way of adding the humor to the sad themes, which makes them even more entertaining.
The older generation of country music artists had a more serious approach, and they stood by the tried and true formula for a good country song. If you dig out older music, you are going to hear the difference right away. You may not think that you like any country music artists if you are into rock, but you may find that it grows on you. As we age, we become more tolerant of all types of music, and we find ourselves looking for meaning and feel in a song without considering that it is in a style of which we usually do not listen.
When it comes to the newer country music artists of today, you may dismiss them if you like the old stuff, but that may not be something that you should do. You may not like all of it, but there may be some songs that you end up loving. These artists are not the same as the old, and they don’t have the same types of lives as those that once ruled the charts did, but they do love their genre, even if they put their own twist on it. Much like your children, you are going to love the second one as much as the first. They are not the same, but they are still yours. Country is still country, even as it evolves.
