A lot of people think that it is easy to start your own blog site, and in some ways they are right. Anyone can create a blog nowadays. All it take to make a blog is an Internet connection and a keyboard. And that is it. You can make a free blog with no special tools, no knowledge of web programming, and a little bit of free time. Still, it all comes down to what you want to put into it. You get out what you put in, after all. Creating a blog of quality – something that people will come back to and read time and time again – is no easy matter. It requires a good idea, good writing skills, and a lot of persistence.

It wasn’t very long ago that the only people creating blogs were serious computer geeks and amateur news reporters. That was about it. It required some specialized knowledge to create a blog back then, and few people were willing to put in the work to learn HTML. Companies like MySpace and Facebook really revolutionized blogging. They came up with easy to use, easy to navigate methods of creating and linking blogs. Nowadays, there are networks upon networks of blogs, each of them communicating to potentially hundreds or even thousands of people.

Most of these blogs, however, are only read by friends and family. If this is all you want, have at it! When I decided to create a blog, however, I had dreams of getting a larger readership. I wanted to be known all over the world for my Internet writing. I started off by telling stories. My friends have always told me that I am a good storyteller, but I’ve never put them to pen and paper before. I just work better when I speak out loud. One of my friends suggested that I use a tape recorder and then transcribe it onto the blog. When I started doing this, I met with success.

I really created a blog that people wanted to read. He didn’t happen overnight. At first, only my friends checked it – and them only rarely. Soon, however, friends of friends and their friends as well started stopping by. It is amazing how quickly networking happens on the Internet once you create content that people want! When you create a blog for fun and profit, you might find yourself a celebrity before you can blink.
