Growing and Caring For Long Hair

December 1st, 2009 · No Comments

As far back as first grade I dreamed of having long hair. I remember one day in particular when one of my classmates showed up with her hair down and these boots on her feet that I feel in love with. As much as I tried, I could not get my hair to grow very long. I have natural curls, and that means my hair would be twice as long, if only it did not curl up as much. Back then, I didn’t get the long tresses I wanted, but I did when I was an adult because I learned some things about hair and hair care.

You may think that curly hair means that you can’t have long hair. That is not true, though it can be something that is a bit of a trial. You do have to remember that it is going to take longer for your hair to grow, and that you are going to have to have regular trims. Though it might seem that getting a trim is not what you should do when you want to have long hair, you won’t get very far with out them. The ends of your hair will split and break without a good trim, and your hair will stay the same length. Keeping the ends healthy means that your hair will grow more quickly. It doesn’t actually grow faster, but the hair is no longer breaking off.

If you have straight hair, achieving the long hair will be something that will be a bit easier, but you do have to think about some of the same things that those with curly hair must deal with. You do have to make appointments for trims, and you do have to do all that you can to keep your hair as healthy as possible. That might mean cutting down on blow-drying and other damaging styling procedures. Also remember that each person has different hair and a different body chemistry. Some can have long hair down to their ankles, but not everyone can get that far.

Once you have the long hair that you want, trims are still essential, and so is care. Your hair will not be beautiful if it is frizzy and damaged. You should get good conditioner and some treatments made for your type of hair. You should also remember that when your hair becomes too old it may damage. That will mean that you have to start all over again after getting all of the damage cut off. Another thing that can really harm long hair is coloring and bleaching. If these are not essential to you, skip them for the health and beauty of your hair.
